Your Melanin Friendly Sunscreen Guide

If you’re searching for a melanin friendly sunscreen that actually works and won’t leave your skin looking gray, ashy, or ghost like, you’re in the right place.

I’m Nadjege Casimir, licensed esthetician and owner of Look Better Naked Spa in Downtown Phoenix, Arizona. I specialize in skin and body treatments that prioritize results especially for melanin rich skin. And yes, that includes sunscreens that do what they’re supposed to do: protect your skin without disrespecting your complexion.

☀️ Why Melanin Rich Skin Needs Sunscreen Too

Let’s cut through the noise. Darker skin doesn’t mean we’re protected from sun damage. Here’s what exposure does to Black and brown skin:

    •    Hyperpigmentation and stubborn dark spots

    •    Uneven texture and tone

    •    Premature aging

    •    Skin cancer (yes, it happens in melanin rich skin too)

And most sun damage? Happens when you least expect it. Driving, walking to your car, sitting by a window. Daily SPF isn’t optional. It’s essential.

💡 What’s Inside the Free Sunscreen Guide

I made this guide for clients just like you who are tired of the guessing game. It’s organized for real life, not just marketing hype.

Inside, you’ll find:

    •    The best sunscreens for oily, dry, combo, and sensitive skin

    •    What works for daily wear under makeup

    •    The go to SPF picks for post facial care

    •    What holds up at the gym (because sweating isn’t an excuse)

    •    Water resistant picks for beach and outdoor fun

    •    Budget friendly products that deliver real protection

    •    Application tips you probably weren’t taught (like warming up zinc formulas first)

This guide is esthetician approved and tested on real clients with real melanin, not just filtered models.

✋🏾 How to Apply Sunscreen Properly

Don’t just slap it on and go. Here’s the method I teach my clients at Look Better Naked Spa:

    •    Use enough: ½ teaspoon for face and neck, a shot glass for your body

    •    Warm it up: Especially with zinc-based mineral sunscreens, rub it between your palms for a few seconds so it spreads more evenly

    •    Press, then spread: Press it into the skin first, then smooth it outward

    •    Let it set: Give it 5 to 10 minutes before applying makeup

    •    Reapply:

• Every 2 hours if you’re in the sun

• After sweating or swimming

• Every 6 to 8 hours if you’re mostly indoors

For makeup wearers or busy clients, I recommend SkinBetter SunBetter Compact Sheer SPF 56 with a kabuki brush. It re-applies easily over makeup, keeps you matte, and doesn’t leave a cast. It just works.
